Lauterbrunnen and its surrounding areas belong to the UNESCO world natural heritage site Jungfrau / Aletsch / Bietschhorn. The village's name says everything about our unique landscape. Lauterbrunnen means "many fountains". Throughout the entire valley, a total of 72 waterfalls cascade from the mountains. Already, in the 18th century, Lauterbrunnen was visited by many travelling through Switzerland. The German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe even wrote a poem about Lauterbrunnen's Staubbach waterfall and it is shown on many paintings. Also to be found in Lauterbrunnen are the spectacular Trümmelbach waterfalls. These glaciar falls (10 in total inside of a mountain) attract many people from all over the world to the mountains from April through November (closed during winter). Lauterbrunnen is the departing point to the more famous, car-free resorts of Wengen and Mürren, as well as the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe (the highest train station of Europe) and the Schilthorn/Piz Gloria (made famous by James Bond, this is a revolving restaurant on top of a mountain with a breath taking 360° panorama view). In Summer, there are infinite possibilities for hiking and mountain biking, all leading to the "most beautiful spots on earth", and of course the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains are always in view! In Isenfluh, a small farmer's village above Lauterbrunnen, you can relax and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the tourist crowds. Lauterbrunnen is in the middle of the Jungfrau Top Ski Region. On the right side of the valley, there is the ski region of Mürren/Schilthorn, easily accessible by funicular and train from Lauterbrunnen. The train to the ski region of Wengen / Männlichen / Kleine Scheidegg, on the left side, also departs from Lauterbrunnen. All of these trains are included in the sports pass. The world-famous panorama of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, can be seen from almost every spot in the Jungfrau Top Ski Region. 44 trains, cable cars, chair- and skilifts bring you up to 213 km worth of ski runs. But it's not only for skiing, the hills offer 50 km of sledging pleasure, 100 km of hiking and country-cross skiing trails are offered. The Crystal Hotel is a small family owned three-star hotel in the heart of Lauterbrunnen. The hotel has 6 rooms with 2-4 beds. Each room has a shower or bath, cable TV and W-LAN. All prices include a delicious breakfast-buffet. The best location to use as a base to reach the famous Wengen and Mürren area for summer walking or winter skiing, as well as the famous Jungfraujoch.
